  • The Journey

    The Road Not Taken
    by Robert Frost

    Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
    And sorry I could not travel both
    And be one traveler, long I stood
    And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth;

    Then took the other, as just as fair,
    And having perhaps the better claim,
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
    Though as for that, the passing there
    Had worn them really about the same,

    And both that morning equally lay
    In leaves no step had trodden black.
    Oh, I kept the first for another day!
    Yet knowing how way leads to way,
    I doubted if I should ever come back.

    I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
    Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
    I took the one less traveled by,
    And that has made all the difference.

    I think that I've used this poem before in a post.  Tis funny how we always go back to something---tangible...real....recognizable...when trying to make connections.  So, it is time for a new part of the journey.  For Ian-- it is back to school time.  It's crazy to think that he is now in 3rd grade!  For Gabe it is another round of Abc's and 123's.  For Ami and I-----it's time to figure out how to get our silly dog back to the States.  It is so strange to think that we have been in Portugal for 3 years.  It is so strange to think that it is time for a flight back.  Who knows what we will find on the next road----its safe to say that no matter what the road may look like----it will be a straight path to the King!

    Ready or not...here we come in just about a month!

    I was just 20.  She was almost 21.  I stood at the alter and watched the most beautiful thing in the world.  My bride was walking down the isle toward me.  Many thoughts go through a young man's mind.  What does the future hold?  Will she still love me when my hair is gone?  Thinking way to much instead of focusing on the task at hand.  "I thee thee take Ami..."  Nervous.  Excited.  No idea how truly blessed I really am.

    I am a mere 32.  My bride is as beautiful as ever.  Many thoughts still go through my mind.  2 children!?!?  A dog...no hair....bigger belly....a different country.  She still loves me.  I am still crazy in love with her.  We were able to go about 30 minutes south to a village called Sesimbra.  Some picture are posted on my photobucket.  Camera broke.  No more pictures anytime soon....I may not be rich.  I may not be famous.  I may not be a lot of things. One thing that I am-----Amazingly blessed to have this fantastic woman by my side for our journey through life!

About Me

  • Most of the choices we make in a day are not made after consciously weighing a list of criteria. We dress and eat and sit and walk and a hundred other things without consciously asking: Is this the will of God? I think this is inevitable and good. It reveals our true inner nature. If we are going to do what pleases God, most of the time it will be by reflex, not reflection. --Piper So, I'm a missionary in Portugal, a husband, a dad, an actor, a writer, a learner, a teacher, and mostly a man that goes through life with a desire to live with a reckless abandon to see the King high and exhalted!
